Battle of Bunker Hill
- On June 16, 1775 Colonel William Prescott had orders to reclaim Bunker Hill
- He accidentally went to Breed's Hill instead
- The British then proceeded to win the battle after bloody attacks on the colonists
- However, the Americans saw this battle as a victory because it showed that they could hold their own against a professional army

Battle of Saratoga
- The British planned to invade New York because they wanted control of the Hudson River
- This battle was considered the turning point of the war
- On October 17, 1777, General Howe of the British Army surrendered at Saratoga, New York because they were greatly outnumbered
- The American forces won this battle because of their new alliance with the French
- France's alliance with the colonists included financial aid and the assistance of their navy
