A Major Event Before the War
The Boston Tea Party
- A result of the Townshend Acts, because the British removed all taxes except on tea
- Took place on December 16, 1773
- Was organized by Sam Adams, the leader if the Boston Son's of Liberty
- A group of men from the Son's of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians and boarded The Darthmouth in Boston Harbor
- They smashed 342 crates of tea and emptied them into the harbor
- Although the men dressed as Mohawk Indians, they wanted everyone to know that they were responsible for this act of rebellion. The disguises were worn to prevent the British authorities from arresting them.
